Mahila Congress leader stabbed to death

Hyderabad, Dec 20 (UNI) Former MLA and Mahila Congress leader Grandhi Madhavi was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants at her residence in the city last night.

Police said Hemanth, son of Grandhi Madhavi found his mother lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to a corporate hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

The victim was stabbed several times, including on her face, chest and hand.

Devi, a maid servant in Madhavi's house also suffered stab injuries and was rushed to Apollo hospital. Hospital Superintendent Srinivas Reddy said her condition was stable.

Madhavi joined Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982 and was elected from Visakhapatnam Assembly seat in 1983 elections. Later, she joined the Congress.

Special teams were formed by the police to nab the culprits.

City police Commissioner A K Mohanty and other senior police officials visited the scene of the crime.
