Kerala get 2 points in drawn match against Goa

Margao, Dec 20 (UNI) Sadgopan Romesh's century went in vain as Kerala had to be content with two points against Goa by virtue of first innings lead in the four-day Ranji plate group 'A' cricket match which ended in a tame draw on the last day at the MCC grounds here today.

Goa, chasing 406 for a win, could only manage to score 292 losing nine wickets in 100 overs at the close of the play with Shailesh Miskin (11) and Anil Naik (one) remained not out.

With todays two points, Kerala collected a total of four points from four outings while Goa had not yet opened their account in as many matches.

The visitors, resuming at the overnight score of 22 for no loss in their second innings, lost their first wicket of their opener Sagun Kamat (12) when he total score was 24 for one. Captain Swapnil Asnodkar, accompaning Anup Kolamkar, added 59 runs for the second wicket and were 83 for two before Kolamakar fell to Prashant on 29.

After Kolamkar's exit, Nikhil Haldipur joined his captain Asnodkar and both added another fruitful 57 runs for the third wicket before Haldipur was out on 31. Asnodkar who had scored a half century, was bowled out by Sony. Asnodkar's half century was laced with six hits to the fence and came off 172 balls and in 231 minutes.

After Asnodkar's exit, another two wickets-- Saurab Bandekar (13) and Rohit Asnodkar (22)--fell at regular intervals for the hosts adding only 28 runs and Goa were reduced to 189 for 6.

The wicketkeeper-batsman Damodar Redkar and allrounder Robin D'Souza steadied their innings and the duo yielded 65 runs for the seventh wicket before Robin was caught by Deepak off the bowling of Sony on 21 with the team score on 254 for 7. At the close of the play, Goa could manage to score 292 for 9.

Shailesh Miskin and Anil Naik remained not out helping their side to end the match in a tame draw.
