FDI inflows at $1.7 bln for Oct' 06

New Delhi, Dec 20 (UNI) FDI inflows in the country posted a 312 per cent increase at 1.7 billion dollars for the month of October 2006, in comparison to 0.442 billion dollars during the corresponding period last year.

During the current fiscal (April-October 2006), FDI inflows stood at 6.1 billion dollars as compared to 2.6 billion dollars during the same period last year, thus registering an increase of 134 per cent.

Delhi regional office of RBI registered inflows of 727 million dollars amounting to around 43 per cent of the total inflows drugs the month. Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai were the other major regions which received FDI.

Two-thirds of the investment (1.1 billion dollars) during October 06 came from Mauritius. The Netherlands, the US, Cyprus were the other major countries from where inflows were received.

Services, electrical equipments, cement and gypsum, drugs and pharmaceuticals, hotel and tourism were the five major sectors receiving FDIs during the period.

SDC Mauritius (517 million dollars), Oracle Global (349 million dollars), Emaar MGF (150 million dollars), Cementrum IBV (124 million dollars), Carraro (25 million dollars) were the major investors during the month.
