CPI holds rasta roko in temple town

Tirupati, Dec 20 (UNI) Tension prevailed here today when CPI activists took to rasta rako at the busy Poornakumba Junction on Chennai-Tirupati Road in the temple town today in protest against the arrest of State CPI General Secretary K Narayan at Visakhapatnam.

Hundreds of CPI workers, who took out a rally from CITU office, gathered at Poornakumba Junction which is main entry point to the temple town from Chennai and coastal areas and took to rasta roko resulting in traffic congestion.

They demanded the government immediately release their leader and activists who were arrested by the police yesterday while agitating against hike in prices of essential commodities.

Police later brought the situation under control and the agitating groups dispersed.
