Centre approves road repair works in Tamil Nadu
New Delhi, Dec 20 (UNI) The Centre has approved road repair works in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 186.75 lakh from Sathyamangalam to Bannari (NH 209) on the Dindugal-Coimbatore-Bangalore Road.
The repair works were approved by Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu following a representation from the state government.
The major cities and towns like Dindugal, Palani, Pollachi, Coimbatore, Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu and Chamraj Nagar, Kollegal, Bangalore in Karnataka are connected by this road.
The traffic on this road is ''very heavy due to flourishing business activities between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu border districts,'' a ministry spokesman said.
Bannari has also been identified as an important pilgrimage centre of this region because of the famous Bannari Amman temple, which is visited by a large number of devotees from various parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.
In view of its importance, it was found necessary to provide paved shoulders on this stretch, he said.
