Anti-reservation agitation lathicharged in BHU
Varanasi, Dec 20 (UNI) Medicos peacefully protesting the 27 per cent OBC reservation in institutions of higher education were allegedly lathicharged by security personnel on the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus here this evening.
The students of Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) staging a 'dharna' outside the institute gate for the last three days were this evening lathicharged by the BHU proctorial board personnel.
Agitated over the lathicharge, the medicos and other students of the varsity agitating under the banner of Youth for Equality blocked traffic at the varsity main gate and demanded strict action against the security personnel.
''We were staging a peaceful dharna outside IMS gate and were preparing to resort to Gandhigiri by presenting flowers to university administration, when the security personnel started dragging one of us in their van and later lathicharged the entire group of agitating students,'' convenor, Youth for Equality-IMS Dr Kamal Gupta alleged.
Meanwhile, the relay hunger strike by the medicos over the anti-reservation issue entered its fifth day today.
