Youth who sent threatening mails to Prez Kalam commits suicide

Varanasi, Dec 18 (UNI) A youth, who was arrested for sending threatening e-mails to President Kalam in August last from Maharashtra, allegedly committed suicide at a lodge in Sigra area here this evening.

Station Officer (Sigra Police Station) J N Mishra said Kumar Arjandas Hotchandani (30), a resident of Thane district of Maharashtra, took the extreme step by shooting self from a countrymade revolver this evening at around 2000 hrs inside a room in National Lodge in Englishia Line locality under Sigra police station.

A revolver and a wallet, containing Rs 2,500, besides ATM and PAN cards as well as a driving licence have been recovered from the spot.

Besides a personal diary has also been seized, Mr Mishra added.

A report of a Delhi-based mental hospital has also been recovered, which suggests that Hotchandani was undergoing treatment for mental ailment.

The management of the National Lodge revealed that Hotchandani had checked in at the lodge on December 16 and was since staying at a room on the first floor of the lodge.

A resident of Thane in Maharashtra, Hotchandani was arrested on August 31 from Ulhasnagar (Thane) for allegedly sending as many as 37 threatening e-mails to the president's e-mail ID [email protected].

Hotchandani had sent six e-mails to the President on August 16 and another 31 on August 24, all derogatory in nature and carried explicit threat to kill Dr Kalam.

Later, interrogation revealed that Hotchandani was involved in a property dispute with his family members and was nursing a grievance and had written to the President and the Maharashtra government complaining about the matter. Hotchandani resorted to writing hate mails to the President after first citizen ignored his complaints.
