Trade chamber welcomes HC ruling on Entry Tax

Kozhikode, Dec 19 (UNI) The Malabar Chamber of Commerce (MCC) today welcomed the Kerala High Court order pronoucing Entry Tax as illegal stating the ruling would help curtail prices of essential commodities in the state.

Besides, the absence of Entry Tax would also help boost inter-state trade if the government implemented the order appropriately, the chamber said in a release here.

Criticising the government's reported move to enact a law to overcome the HC ruling, it said it would only weaken the judiciary and be against the interests of the people.

The High Court in its order yesterday had held that the demand and collection of Entry Tax under the Kerala Tax on Entry of Goods into Local Areas Act, 1994, as illegal, unauthorised and violative of Article 301 of the Constitution.
