Temperature drops in NE
Aizawl, Dec 19 (UNI) Weather officials here today stated that an upper air trough that ran from Arunachal Pradesh to north Bay of Bengal across Asom, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Bangladesh was the reason behind the sudden drop in the temperature across the region.
The trough, a long region of low air-pressure, ran between 1.6 km and 3.6 km above the sea level, officials said adding apart from this, there is also sudden spurt in fog, which made frequent flights cancellation across NE region.
According to the forecast for the next two days, because of a sudden spurt of cold, Aizawl recorded a maximum temparature of 18 degrees and minimum of 11 degrees Celsius with a rainfall of 0.2 mm in the morning time.
Besides, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) under the civil aviation department has decided to commission a digital current weather information system at Lengpui airport here which would detect any meteorological aberrations in the sky.
The new system would replace an old weather evaluation device and visual flight rules now used here, the officials stated.
