Technical committee releases Rs 1 crore for holy Bein

Sultanpur Lodhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The Holy Bein Technical Committee has released Rs one crore for the ongoing projects to prevent sullage water from flowing into the holy Bein, the rivulet in which Guru Nanak is said to have attained enlightenment.

A meeting of the technical committee headed by Project Coordinator P Ram, Technical Education Principal Secretary involved with the cleaning operation of the choked Buddha Nalha in Ludhiana, was held for the first time on the banks of the holy Bein at Sultanpur Lodhi where Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal has built bathing ghats.

The meeting was attended among others by Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioners Raminder Singh and M K Tiwari respectively, Science and Technoloy Executive Director N S Tiwana, SDMs and senior officers of drainage, agriculture, forests, sewerage board and horticulture departments.

While reviewing the progress of the holy Bein, Mr Ram expressed satisfaction over the digging up of ponds in the villages.

Kapurthala D C informed that work in 28 villages was completed and dirty water had stopped flowing into the Bein, while work in the remaining 16 villages was still on and would be completed within a month.

When Baba Seechewal stated that nonavailability of cemented pipe lines was slowing down progress of the project, Mr Ram offered to extend technical know how from the Science and Technology Department to enable local manufacturing of the pipes.

The project coordinator has demanded the administration to make alternate arrangements for the disposal of sewerage in the towns of Dasuya, Tanda, Begowal and Bholath by February 28 as he found the progress ''too slow.'' Mr Ram also directed Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur DCs to review the progress of these towns on a weekly basis and directed the SDMs to complete the demarcation of the Bein within a month.
