Ruling BJP MLA fasting unto death in MP

Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh, Dec 19 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Jalam Singh Patel has announced that he is fasting unto death in protest against alleged police harassment in this district headquarters.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police B K Shrivastav said that he was unaware of any such development.

The police confirmed that Mr Patel, another BJP MLA Hakam Singh Chadar and their supporters last night halted -- in front of the Narsinghpur Cinema Hall -- a police team that was taking Mr Patel's son Monu for questioning with regard to a case of assault and hooliganism.

Earlier, the legislator duo were staging a sit-in and demonstration there over farmers' problems and other issues. The two sides allegedly even came to blows. However, no report was filed.
