Rediff invests in Tachyon Technologies
Bangalore, Dec 19(UNI) Taking a minority stake in a small technology company Tachyon Technologies, leading portal Rediff.com will introduce a new product that will enable users type in English alphaputs to input words in other languages.
Announcing the investment Rediff.com Founder and CEO Ajit Balakrishnan told newsmen that this was the first invesment by the company into a technology company and aim to lookout for more such companies to enhance the capability of the portal, besides supporting the Indian genious. Company would boost its competitiveness by investing in start up companies with innovative technologies, he added.
He however did not announce neither the percentage of stake nor the quantum of investment.
Tachyon Technologies had been in the past providing solutions to Rediff and has now come out with a world class product named 'Quillpad' which would enable users to tyupe in English alphabets to input words in other languages in the respective scripts with ease on the basis of phonetics. the net surfers could communicate in their language of choice. Initially the product would be available for all the four southern languages of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam besides Hindi and Marathi, Tachyan CEO H Ram Prakash told newsmen that efforts were on the develop the product in other Indian languages besides migrating to foreign languages.
Mr Balakrishnan said Rediff.com had adopted this technology in its Rediffmail email and Rediff Bol messenger service.
Mr Ram Prakash said that development was in advanced stage for use of the technology in mobile telephones for SMS purposes.
