Railway revenue earnings up 16.74 per cent
New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The Railways earned Rs. 1718.69 crore during December 1-10 as compared to Rs 1472.23 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 16.74 per cent.
The earnings from transport of goods went up from Rs 1004.54 crore to Rs 1188.22 crore during the period, showing an increase of 18.28 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during December 1-10 this year were Rs 477.59 crore as compared to Rs 423.78 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 12.70 per cent.
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 40.28 crore as compared to Rs 33.14 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 21.54 per cent while the total sundry earnings went up from Rs 10.77 crore to Rs 12.60 crore, showing an increase of 16.99 per cent.
The number of passengers booked during December 1-10 this year were 174.33 million compared to 164.92 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.71 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during 1-10 December 2006 were 100.36 million and 73.97 million compared to 95.51 million and 69.41 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 5.08 per cent and 6.57 per cent respectively.
