President inaugurates science museum

Kochi, Dec 19 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today inaugurated a Science and Technology Museum, the first of its kind in the country, at the Sree Rama Varma High School here.

Addressing a gathering after the inauguration, Dr Kalam expressed hope that the museum would ''rekindle'' young minds and pave way for greater imagination and thoughts.

He said the students' minds should be inspired to create curiosity and, thereby, creativity.

Expressing satisfaction over the venture, Dr Kalam said the facility should be upgraded into an interactive museum which would enable students to venture on a virtual space journey by launching rockets and manning satellites.

He also urged the authorities concerned to provide a facility to portray the biographies of eminent scientists.

The President, who is on a two-day visit to the state, said the museum should endevour in spreading the developements in biotechnology, information technology and nano-technology for the betterment of the society.

Reiterating the importance of e-learning, Dr Kalam said it would help in seamless flow of information and spread of education to the rural areas.

He gave some books and promised to donate two computers to the school.
