Police arrest ''obsessed'' jawan

Kota, Dec 19 (UNI) An Army deserter, who had announced his intention of shooting the daughter of his former officer, was arrested before he could carry out the crime.

Sundar Singh of Rajputana Rifles, who was posted at Ramban in Jammu and Kashmir, was apprehended by a joint military police and civil police team, on the basis of a warning from the formation hqs after the jawan went missing.

According to police, Sundar fled his unit with a loaded pistol and 10 cartridges with the intention of shooting down the young daughter of his former officer, who is currently undergoing coaching for medical entrance here.

Sundar, who hails from Haryana, had told his colleagues that he would murder the girl, before turning the gun on himself.

His unit informed the military police in Kota in advance, who apprehended the youth, with the help of city police.
