Plant trees not funny ideas: President

Kochi, Dec 19 (UNI) Giving a clarion call, President A P J Abdul Kalam today called for ''planting trees rather than planting funny ideas.'' Replying to a question on planting saplings for trimming trees for constructing helipad for the President here, Dr Kalam expressed his satisfaction and urged the authorities concerned to take proper care of the saplings.

'' I saw the newly planted ten saplings and they should not be removed at any cost,'' he said.

The President also watered two saplings near the helipad on his arrival here.

Dr Kalam also asked the Ernakulam District Colector Mohammed Hanish about the varieties of saplings planted.

Dr Kalam, who had received reports about three 'gulmohar' trees being truncated on the Marine Drive to make way for the helipad, had instructed the district authorities to plant three times the number of saplings.
