Pilot 'Coke Oven' project inaugurated in VSP
Visakhapatnam, Dec 19: Union Ministry of Steel Secretary R S Pandey today inaugurated the unique research and development pilot project 'Coke Oven,' that will help to reduce the cost of coke production in the steel plant.
Speaking after inaugurating the project here, Mr Pandey complimented the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) for its excellent performance and bagging various prestigious awards like the CII-Exim bank award for business excellence, Prime Minister's trophy for best integrated steel plant in the country and the national energy consevation award last week.
Mr Pandey went around various important production units in the VSP. Later, interacting with the officials and plant management, he advised them to put in their best efforts to emerge as a global player.
RINL and VSP Chairman and Managing Director Y Sivasagar Rao said despite several constraints, the company has achieved unique turnaround unheard of in the Indian Steel industry to emerge as 'Mini Ratna Company.' He said RINL would focus on promoting the usage of steel in a big way in rural parts of the country.
