Only fine for not wearing helmet: Police
Hyderabad, Dec 19 (UNI) City Traffic Police today clarified those not wearing helmets and seat belts would only be asked to pay fine.
Talking to newsmen here, Additional Commissioner of Police A K Khan said Rs 100 fine would be imposed on those driving two-wheeler and four-wheelers for violation of the traffic rules.
There was panic among motoring public when newspapers and TV channels quoting Mr Khan said those violating the traffic rules would be facing imprisonment up to six months.
Mr Khan today clarified there was no provision in the law for such imprisonment.
However, drivers using mobile phones while driving vehicles could face imprisonment upto six months or fine of up to Rs 1,000 if they were found endangering the life of other drivers or pedestrians according to a new provision introduced in the Indian Penal Code.
