One more soldier ends life in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 19 (UNI) One more soldier committed suicide in Jammu and Kashmir today, sources said.

However, police said a Rashtriya Rifles (RR) personnel was found dead under suspicious circumstances at the sector headquarters in Sopore area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir.

Naik Balbir Singh was presently serving in 5 Sector RR at Sopore.

Police said proceedings under section 174 CrPC have been initiated into the incident.

Yesterday, an RR trooper, identified as Gurvinder Singh from Sangrur in Punjab, ended his life when he shot himself dead with his service weapon in Kishtwar town of Doda district in Jammu region.

Several personnel, including high-ranking officials, have committed suicide in Jammu and Kashmir over the past few months.

The defence authorities have introduced a 24-hour help-line and Yoga classes besides several other measures to help the soldiers overcome the problems related to stress and their family and thus prevent them from taking the extreme step.
