NE Agri ministers meet in Shillong
Shillong, Dec 19: The two-day Regional Committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) will be held tomorrow at the ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Umiam.
Director General of ICAR and Secretary of Agricultural Research and Education Dr Mangala Rai, will preside over the various sessions, which will also be attended by Ministers of Agriculture and allied sectors of the member states, commissioners, secretaries and directors of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries etc. departments of various member states.
In addition, administrators, policy planners and scientists of various disciplines of ICAR will be present.
The main importance of the Regional Committee Meetings is to take stock of the research programmes carried out for two years in terms of technologies generated and their dissemination, relevance of the research programmes in the light of changing needs of the society, areas uncovered which needs to be included, better research-development-processing-industry-financing bodies-NGOs tie up, etc., for the development of agriculture in the region.
The inputs received from the various members in these meetings help in framing research policies specific to the region.
