More awareness needed to control pollution: Minister
Hyderabad, Dec 19 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh State Minister for Panchayati Raj J C Diwakar Reddy today underlined the need to create more awareness from the village level to control pollution.
Addressing the Chairpersons of Zilla Parishads, Chief Executive Officers and the District Panchayati Officers at a conference on 'Environmental degradation and the methods and mechanism by the local bodies at the gross root level,' he called upon them to take measures to control the environmental degradation.
He said the pollution was increasing due to use of plastic covers and open toilets. Mr Reddy asked them to take measures to avoid use of plastic cups and covers from the village level and educate the people from the village and mandal level on the dangerous effects on the use of the plastic cups and covers and open toilets.
He advised them to take up various pollution control programmes from the mandal and village level with a view to serve the society without depending on the government for everyting.
He said the use of plastic cups and covers in his constituency Tadipatri in Ananthapur District was totally banned and the move received good encouragement from the people.
Panchayati Raj Department Special Secretary Samuel said the department had been conducting series of conferences on the direction from the AP High Court on the measures taken by the government to control pollution.
The department had already conducted a conference for the Chairpersons of Municipalities along with lectures from the experts for various methods to control pollution.
