Medics convicted in Libya case plan appeal-lawyer

TRIPOLI, Dec 19 (Reuters) Five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor will appeal against their conviction on charges of deliberately infecting hundreds of children with the HIV virus, the main defence lawyer said today.

''We will launch an appeal against the verdict to the supreme court,'' the lawyer, Othman Bizanti, told Reuters after the six were found guilty and sentenced to death for infecting 426 children with HIV at a hospital in Benghazi in the late 1990s.

Bizanti added: ''We will study the verdict and find out whether there's errors or misunderstanding of the facts.'' Reuters PDM VV1623
