MDMK faces revolt from 2 top leaders

Chennai, Dec 19 (UNI) The Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) in Tamil Nadu is facing a crisis with two of its top-level leaders raising a banner of revolt against the party high command.

Party Presidium Chairman L Ganesan, MP and Deputy General Secretary Gingee N Ramachandran, MP have said they were not happy with the style of functioning of party leader Vaiko and gave an indication they might quit the MDMK.

Mr Ganesan told a television channel that the credibility of Mr Vaiko has taken a beating because of his frequent switching of loyalties between DMK and the AIADMK.

When contacted, Mr Ramachandran told UNI he was also having the same view (as Mr Ganesan) but that should not be construed they would quit the party and join the DMK.

''We are with the MDMK and joining the DMK is ruled out. Our criticism against party leader is only constructive,'' Mr Ramachandran said adding he would consult Mr Ganesan and announce his future course of action.

He said no significance could be attached to their absence when Mr Vaiko launched his padayatra from Maduari yesterday on the Mullaperiyar Dam issue.

''We could not be present as Parliament session is on. We will join the padayatra once the session is over,'' he said adding Mr Vaiko has undertaken the yatra for a good cause.
