Lowest rainfall in ten years for 2006

New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The amount of south-west monsoon rainfall in the country for 2006 was estimated to be 889 mm, very close to normal rainfall of 892 mm, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Answering the questions of Mr Ram Jethmalani and Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of State for Water Resources J P Yadav, in a written reply, said that the rainfall this year was probably the lowest compared to the figures of average rainfall since 1996. The lowest rainfall received was in 2002 when the country received 941 mm rains, the minister said.
