K'taka HC asks Health Secretary to file affidavit

Bangalore, Dec 19 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary to file a detailed affidavit regarding specific steps taken and progress made in the implementation of a Delhi High Court direction about forming a committee for donating kidney for transplantation.

Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice B S Patil issued the direction on a writ petition, filed by the city-based Kidney Patients Welfare Association.

The petitioner challenged several provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, and sought for a direction to effectively implement the same. It contended that there were several hurdles and technical problems in the law for donors, which would in turn act detrimental to the health of the patients due to delay.
