Jaipur Jail official suspended after rapist parole jump
Jaipur, Dec 19 (UNI) The superintendent of Central Jail, Jaipur Vishwesh Joshi, has been suspended in connection with Alwar rape convict Biti Hotra Mohanty jumping parole.
B H Mohanty was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping a German tourist student in Alwar in April this year. He had been lodged in Jaipur's Central Jail.
He was released on parole on November 20, 2006 for 15 days as his father, a DGP (Home Guard and Fire Services) in Orissa had submitted an application that his mother was unwell.
Mohanty was supposed to return on December 4 but failed to turn up.
Jail Superintendent Joshi also did not inform the state government when he failed to return.
The state government, on being informed about the missing convict, immediately issued orders for his arrest and suspended Joshi for failing to take proper steps in this direction.
The accused was released on parole by Director General, Jail R S Chauhan, who is retired now.
The state government has decided to investigae as to whether Mohanty was released to facilitate his escape from Jail.
