In all 101 rebels killed during last two years
Agartala, Dec 19 (UNI) At least 101 militants of various outfits were killed and three injured in the state during last two years in clashes with the security forces and 846 rebels surrendered in the last three years, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today told the state assembly.
In a written reply to the question of Rajyeswar Debbarma, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who also holds the home portfolio, said besides the kiling of 101 insurgents in encounters, 72 security personnel, including state police, TSR, and army were killed and 49 injured till November this year from 2004.
Of the total 72, security personnel who died in clashes with the underground forces were BSF 20, CRPF 10, Territorial Army 16, Assam Rifles 6, Spo one, state police 3 and TSR 20 during the period from 2004 to November this year.
During that period, 98 civilians were also killed in a gun battle between police and insurgents and 130 injured. Besides killing of 101 rebels of the banned the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) and other outfits, 846 extremists surrendered their arms to the authorities and joined the national mainstream during the last two years, the Chief Minister informed the house.
The militants looted 101 arms and 7627 ammunitions from the security forces after ambush from different parts of the state during the period and 185 such rebels were also arrested.
