HPGC records lowest oil/coal consumption

Chandigarh, Dec 19 (UNI) The Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGC) has recorded its lowest ever consumption of specific oil and coal during the current financial year.

The corporation achieved specific oil consumption of 2.12 ml/kwh during 2006-07 as against 5.22 ml/kwh during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

''This was made possible due to the efficient management practices adopted by it,'' a Corporation spokesman said.

Similarly, the specific coal consumption reduced from 747 gm/kwh to 715 gm/kwh during the same period.

He said the Panipat Thermal Power Station had achieved a record generation of 316.74 lakh units of electricity on September 1 at a plant load factor of 97.04 per cent. The second highest ever daily generation of the plant was 315.05 lakh units at plant load factor of 96.52 per cent recorded on August 30.

He said the future generation capacity building programmes of the Corporation included setting up of 1000/1200 MW thermal power project to be set up at Hisar, 1500 MW coal based thermal power plant being set up at Jhajjar by National Thermal Power Corporation.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with National Thermal Power Corporation and Government of Delhi to get 750 MW of power from this project. The Corporation has a plan to procure up to 2000 MW of power through tariff based competitive bidding under projects yet to be set up.

He said a 2x300 MW thermal power project was being set up at Yamunanagar and its first unit would be commissioned by November 2007 and second unit in February 2008. With the commissioning of this project, about 144 lakh additional units of electricity would be available daily to the state.
