Easing of sugar exports to be applicable in day or two: Pawar
New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The government today said the easing of sugar exports to exporters with advance licenses will be notified within one or two days.
''Applications are being received. Yesterday's decision of allowing partial sugar exports will be applicable in a day or two,'' Minister of Agriculture Sharad Pawar told reporters here.
''The government will make an assessment of the sugar stocks in 10-15 days and decide whether to completely lift the ban or not,'' he added.
The minister also said there is no impact being seen on winter crops yield due to rise in temperature.
The government in yesterday's cabinet meeting eased the restriction on the export of sugar to enable traders to meet prior export obligations.
Sugar exports were banned in July by the government to control the sky-rocketting prices, but expectations for a bumper crop in the new season that began in October have pushed prices sharply lower.
According to the forecast done by the Agriculture Ministry, sugar production in the current fiscal starting October 2006 is expected to reach 22.7 million tonnes in comparison to 19.3 million tonnes in the last season.
