Congress sets up Committee to go into Haveri incident

Bangalore, Dec 19 (UNI) The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) today set up a Fact Finding Committee to go into the violent incidents in Haveri and the subsequent police lathi charge on farmers at an APMC market yesterday.

A KPCC release here said the five-member Committee would visit Haveri soon. The Committee had been asked to submit a detailed report soon for further follow up.

The trouble started when hamals (coolies) fought among themselves over a petty matter and refused to lift cotton bales. Enraged by their behaviour, the farmers in the APMC premises started pelting stones and ransacked the office, besides setting afire a bus and a two-wheeler.
