CB-CID probe ordered into death of couple

Chennai, Dec 19 (UNI) Madras High Court today directed the State CBCID to investigate the mysterious death of a couple in 1992 at their residence in Madurai.

A Division Bench comprising Mr Justice P Sathasivam and Mr Justice S Tamilvanan gave the above order and directed the CBCID to take further action in accordance with law while allowing a petition filed by S Radha Moni.

According to Ms Moni, on January seven, 2002 she received information that her son Rameshkumar and his wife Gayathiri had expired.

On the day, Ms Moni and her husband had been to their native Kerala.

When they rushed to Madurai, they were not permitted to have a glimpse of the dead bodies though they were kept in the mortuary.

According to the FIR, Gayathri's brother heard the two-and-half-year-old child of the couple weeping at around 0800 hrs. As the door was locked, he removed the lock with the help of his neighbours and went inside only to find the couple lying dead.

The police registered a case and subsequently it was closed after a final report was filed before the Tashildar by S S Colony Police Station Inspector.

Ms Moni contended a case of homicide was closed as suicide without proper investigation. The very pertinent question raised in this case was how was it possible for the deceased to commit suicide on the ground floor of the house when it was found locked from outside and when the house had only one entrance.
