BHU students burn Arjun Singh is effigy

Varanasi, Dec 19 (UNI) Protesting against 27 per cent OBC reservation in institutions of higher education today, medicos and other students of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here this evening took to street and burnt HRD Minister Arjun Singh in effigy.

In violation of BHU directives, prohibiting demonstrations and processions on the varsity campus, students of Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) carried on with their 'dharna' on the road close to the institute for the second day today.

They were later joined by students from other faculties and departments.

The students took out a mock funeral procession of the HRD minister.

Meanwhile, IMS students continued the relay hunger strike for the fourth day and also boycotted classes.

Convenor of Youth for Equality-IMS BHU, Kamal Gupta said the anti-quota movement on the campus will be intensified from tomorrow.
