Bhindranwale calendars surface in Ganganagar
Sriganganagar, Dec 19 (UNI) District police have recommended a ban on calendars bearing pictures of leader and inspiration behind the separatist Khalistan movement in Punjab, Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, that are being briskly sold here and have raised fears of terrorists again becoming active in the region.
Intelligence agencies have been alerted and are keeping a close watch on the situation and are trying to ascertain the source of these calendars.
These calendars have recently reached the Ganganagar district which is adjacent to Punjab and bear the name of Gurmat Sahib Sadan of Damdami Taksal as its publisher.
Both Ganganagar and Hanumangarh districts were affected during the terrorist movement in Punjab in early 1980s.
Several terrorists were active in these districts and Punjab police had arrested many terrorists from these areas then.
The calendar also bears a list of martyrs headed by Bhinderanwale, who are said to have been killed in the Operation Bluestar.
Considering the gravity of the matter, the district police has sent the case under Section 95 of CrPC to the state government, which can issue a notification, banning selling of such senstitive calendars.
Ganganagar SP Vinita Thakur said the seizing of such calendars would begin once the state government issues the orders.
