An arrested killed in police encounter
Mangalore, Dec 19(UNI) The Police have killed an accused in a murder case who was picked up for investigation and being transferred to the city when the latter tried to escape from the police team after snatching a service revolver from a constable near Jog in Shimoga district last night.
The district police said that the deceased Athik was arrested at Bhatkal by District Crime Investigation Bureau (DCIB), in connection with murder of local Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sukhananda Shetty at Mulky in the Mangalore District recently, was being brought to Mangalore for interrogation. On the way he pleaded for stopping the vehicle to attend nature's call. While getting down from the vehicle he snatched service revolver from a constable and opened fire in an attempt to escape.
However, the sleuths retaliated and fired at him. Athik succumbed to bullet injuries on the way to hospital.
Meanwhile the special police squad had arrested as many as 10 persons in connection with the Sukhananda Shetty murder case which had triggered a communal violence in the District recently.
