AIADMK leader slams DMK for double stand on Karaikal issue

Puducherry, Dec 19 (UNI) AIADMK state secretary A Anbazhagan, MLA, today cautioned the DMK that it would meet the same fate like the Congress faced in the last assembly elections, if they continue with their 'double stand' on the Karaikal issue.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Anbazhagan alleged that the DMK, which had obtained the status of the opposition in the assembly through the backdoor had failed to function as an effective opposition.

He said Leader of the Opposition A M H Nazeem had enacted a 'drama' on the Karaikal issue that the region was being neglected by the administration and retracted from boycotting of the session following talks with Chief Minister N Rangasamy.

What Mr Nazeem and the other DMK member V M C Sivakumar had obtained from the government overnight to change their views on the neglect of Karaikal region, he wondered and said the people of Karaikal cannot be cheated for long and the DMK would also face the fate of the Congress in the region. (None of the Congress candidate emerged sucessful in Karaikal region in the last assembly elections).

Pointing out that the DMK would get posts of chairpersons in government boards and corporation, Mr Anbazhagan said if Mr Nazeem was really concerned about the development of Karaikal, he should fight and get a ministerial berth.

The AIADMK leader demanded that DMK should quit the opposition status after they join the government by getting the plumb posts of chairpersons.
