Shillong, Dec 18: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is taking up the upgradation and four laning of National Highways in the North Eastern Region, under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in the North East Region (SARDP-NE).
Under the programme, about 458 km of National Highways are proposed to be upgraded in the NE Region with the year 2009 being the targeted year of completion, official sources said.
This will connect all the district headquarters to the National Highways directly or through improved state highways.
The development of National Highways, including the widening to 4/6 lanes is a continuous process and depends upon the traffic, its growth, priority and availability of funds, the official sources said.
