UNICEF Chief hails Haryana's work for child welfare

Chandigarh, Dec 18 (UNI) UNICEF Chief Cecilio Adorna today appreciated the steps taken by the Haryana government for the welfare of the children of the state.

Mr Adorna, who called on Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here, especially appreciated the schemes being implemented by the state government to improve the sex-ratio and those for health and nutrition and universalisation of elementary education.

He said formation of the Sakhshar Mahila Smooh (SMS) were proving very effective, especially at the village level.

Mr Adorna, who also had a meeting with Haryana Chief Secretary Prem Prashant, said the schemes being implemented by Haryana in social sector had ample scope for the participation of UNICEF.

He also offered UNICEF's help to Haryana to overcome the problem of female foeticide and child marriage.
