Umbrey sworn-in as new MLA
Itanagar, Dec 18 (UNI) Independent MLA Laeta Umbrey was today sworn in at a simple ceremony in the legislative assembly.
Speaker Setong Sena administered the oath and secrecy of office to Mr Umbrey, an MLA from Roing assembly constituency on December 4 by-election.
The two-time MP contested the by-poll as Independent nominee after he was denied Congress ticket and as a result he was expelled from the party for a period of six years.
Talking to media persons immediately after the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Umbrey said he would work for the cause of the people of his constituency and would try to improve the deteriorating law-and-order-situation.
With Mr Umbrey, the total number of Independent MLA in the 60-member house rose to 14. Congress has 33 legislators, Opposition BJP has 9 and Arunachal Congress (AC) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have two members each.
