Tribal Rights Bill would preserve nature: Arjun Munda

Ranchi, Dec 18 (UNI) Expressing happiness over passage of Tribal Rights Bill by the Lok Sabha, Jharkhand's former Chief Minister Arjun Munda today said the Bill would also help in preserving the environment as well.

Mr Munda said the Bill was a result of a long struggle of tribal people.

He said struggle to get right on forest was initiated by late Birsa Munda in the name of 'Jungle Aandolan' in Kolhan and Singhbhum in the 1970s.

The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Bill, 2006, passed in Lok Sabha on December 15, seeks to lay down a procedure for recognition and vesting of forest rights in forest dwelling Scheduled Tribes.
