TN Transport Dept seizes vehicles in surprise raids

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu Dec 18 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Transport Department today conducted a surprise raid, seized eleven vehicles and filed a case against 75 vehicles for violation of the transport rules and regulations.

Police said an eight-member team under the Joint-Director, Yogarajan, registered cases against eleven share autorickshaw drivers, who had taken excess commuters in violation of the norms and regulations of the transport rules and impounded the vehicles.

The team also filed a case against 75 vehicles for violation of the norms and regulations.

The decision to take surprise raids were in the aftermath of the death of 17 commuters last month in a railway crossing here, while they were proceeding in an autorickshaw, police added.
