Symposium on Livestock and livelihood in December
Lucknow, Dec 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government will hold a symposium on 'Livestock and Livelihood' here on December 21 and 22 to boost the prospect of the state in the sector.
Vice-chancellors of several agriculture universities, eminent scholars and scientists along with senior government officers and some progressive farmers will participate in the two-day event.
Dr M L Madan, Vice-Chancellor, Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaye Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go Anusandhan Sansthan, Mathura, Dr M P Yadav, V-C, SVBP University of Agriculture and Techonology, Meerut and Bhanwar Lal Kothari, President, Rajasthan Gau Sewa Sangh are some of the key speakers.
Uttar Pradesh Council of Agricultural Research (UPCAR) Director General Professor Chandrika Prasad said ''for generating gainful employment in rural sector, particularly among landless, small, marginal farmers and womenfolk, to provide cheap and nutritious food to millions of people as well as to preserve the eco-system we have to change towards agrarian and livestock based socio-economic progress as nearly 75 per cent of our population dwells in rural area.'' Livestock sector is pivotal to agrarian economy of Uttar Pradesh. Population of livestock in UP is about 61.49 million which is around 14 per cent of total livestock of the country but accounts for 18.25 per cent of national milk yield.
