Surat police facing staff shortage: Brar
Surat, Dec 18 (UNI) The new Surat Police Commissioner R M S Brar today said his priority would be to ensure the security of the people by maintaining communal harmony.
Talking to UNI after assuming the charge of the post from outgoing Commissioner Sudhir Sinha, who has been shifted to the Intelligence wing, Brar said ''First of all, I have to understand the situation here. Like any other city, the crime rate is high in Surat. The traffic situation is also a matter of concern. But we are also handicapped by staff shortage and I think that the government also understands the situation.'' Police has a major role in creating a conducive development atmosphere in Surat, he added.
A 1975 batch IPS officer, Brar hails from Faridkot in Punjab and is working with Gujarat police since 1977. Earlier, he was in Surat in 1988-90 as the Detection of Crime Branch head.
