''Shyamam'' wins NYAFF award
Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 18 (UNI) Malayalam film ''Shyamam'' (Dark Clouds of Reality), directed by new-comer Sreevallabhan Balan, has won the Fourth-Annual New York AIDS Film Festival (NYaff) award.
The film produced by Nazer and Nissar, under the New Age Movie Makers banner, brings to pose the situation of a family fighting with AIDS as also the approach of society towards them.
Talking to newspersons here, Director Balan and producer Nazer claimed that their film was well received and had invitaion from some film festivals.
However, they complained that though the film won the award from 41 entries in the NYAFF, which concluded on December 4, it did not get due recognition in the State.
Besides ''Shyamam'', ''Phir Milenge'', directed by Revathy, was also screened at the festival, they said.
The movie, a maiden venture of Balan, showcases that how the dark clouds of this deadly disease are looming large on society.
The Fourth NYAFF was a five-day series of HIV/AIDS-related film screenings, panel discussions, and special events. The festival takes place each year during the first week of December (World AIDS Week).
