Shankar Puraskar 2006 to be conferred upon Dr Shanti Jain
New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) The prestigious Shankar Puraskar, awarded to honour outstanding work published in Hindi during the last 10 years on Indian philosophy, culture and art, will this year be conferred upon Dr Shanti Jain.
Apart from this, the K K Birla Foundation, which established the award in 1992, also announced the Vachaspati Puraskar and the Bihari Puraskar.
While Dr Bhaskaracharya Tripathi has been selected got the Vachaspati Puraskar, honouring Sanskrit writers, the Bihari Puraskar for literary works in Hindi or Rajasthani writers belonging to Rajasthan, will be given to Alka Saraogi.
Dr Jain is being honoured for her work 'Lokgiton ke Sandarbh aur Aayam'. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh. This is the first time that Shankar Puraskar is being given for a study.
Dr Tripathi's work 'Saket Saurabham' (Mahakavyam) has earned him the award, Ms Saraogi is being honoured for her novel 'Shesh Kadambari'.
Both these awards carry cash prize of Rs one lakh each.
The dates for the award ceremony will be decided later.
