Seminar on women in Tirupati

Tirupati, Dec 18 (UNI) The National Commission for Women(NCW) have a proposal to the Central Government to introduce one rupee registration for women marriage, NCW member and in-charge for South India, Nirmala Venkatesh, said here today.

After inaugurating a day's seminar on ''Protection of women from domestic violence,'' organised by Rashtriya Seva Samithi(RASS) and Sri Shakthi Development Society(SSDS) here, she said the commission also made a proposal to provide rehabilitation package of Rs two to Rs five lakh to a raped victim.

''The media is playing a key role in creating awarness on women rights at village level, Ms Venkatesh said.'' The sexual harassment is still continuing in various parts of the country and the harassment in south, but it is on the higher side in north, she added.

Sri Venkateswara University Law Department V Hemalatha Devi has strongly stressed the need for an academic audit on women acts and demanded the commission to bring a comprehensive legislation on various Women acts to simplify the procedures for approaching the courts.

Prof Hemalatha urged the commission to bring all similar offences, related to women under one umberilla for their overall benefit.
