Ryots unleash fury at MP township

Morena, MP, Dec 18 (UNI) Incensed over use of force by the police against fertiliser-deprived farmers blocking a road, agitators pelted stones in this district's Sabalgarh township, torched a police post near the bus stand, a marketing society and a few shops, and held the sub-divisional magistrate, tehsildar and police officers captive in the resthouse.

Police personnel fired in the air and lobbed teargas shells in self-defence.

In the wake of fertiliser not being supplied by Sabalgarh's marketing society this morning, cultivators blocked the Morena-Sabalgarh road. When the police attempted to lift the blockade, a ryot was injured by a cane. This further enraged the farmers who created a ruckus in the marketplace.

District Collector Akash Tripathi and Superintendent of Police Yogesh Chaudhry rushed to the spot. The situation was still tense at the township.
