Quota: Women activists try to gatecrash into Par

New Delhi, Dec 18: The National Federation of Indian Women today made an attempt to gate crash into Parliament premises, demanding that the Women Reservation Bill be brought in the ongoing session.

Shouting slogans like 'Parliament par halla bole (attack Parliament)', women activists led by Anne Raja reached the main gate of Parliament House, surprising the security persons posted there.

The security personnel had a hard time controlling the agitated NFIW members who were demanding that the bill regarding 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies be brought before the current winter session which is going to conclude tomorrow.

There were scuffles between the security personnel and women activists as the former tried to prevent them from entering Parliament premises. Angry protestors, while being taken away in the police van, took caps of some of the women security personnel.

Women activists, who wanted to go to Parliament to press that their decade-long demand be considered soon, also charged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with propogating "police raj" to silence their democratic rights.
