Rebate for installating Solar Water Heating System in Delhi homes
New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) Delhi cabinet today approved a scheme to grant rebate of Rs 6,000 for installating Solar Water Heating System in residences across the city, with an aim to promote the use of renewable energy.
In a meeting, presided over by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the cabinet decided to provide a lumpsum incentive/rebate of Rs 6,000 to domestic consumers for replacing electric geysers with SWHS from approved/authorised manufacturers/dealers either by way of availing loan from approved government banks/financial institutions or with their own finance.
Delhi Transco Ltd had been authorised to function as the nodal agency in the matter.
In Delhi, the very high morning peak demand in winter months was mostly due to heating appliances like geysers, which were heavy guzzlers of electricity, being used in homes in the capital.
A 100-litre capacity SWHS could replace an electric geyser for residential use and save 1,500 units of electricity per annum.
It was expected that at least 200 MW of electricity would be saved from the installation of SWHS in the domestic sector.
In Delhi, there were around 18 lakh domestic consumers using electric geysers and it was expected that 30-40 per of the domestic consumers could opt for the scheme over a period of six to seven years.
Approximate cost of 100 litre SWHS was between Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000 and 200 litre SWHS between Rs 26,000 to Rs 38,000. A 100-litre SWHS could serve the need of a family of four.
The SWHS heated cold water to 60 to 80 degrees Centigrade with the help of Sun's rays depending on solar radiation/weather condition and the efficiency of solar collector system.
