PMK holds tamil demo in govt correspondence
Chennai, Dec 18: Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) members led by their President G K Mani staged a demonstration here today urging the Tamil Nadu Government to ensure all government correspondence, government orders (GOs), certificates and circulars were issued only in Tamil.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Mani pointed to similar demonstrations held in all the district headquarters in the state with PMK Founder-Leader S Ramadoss leading an agitation at Villupuram.
Though the Tamil Official Language Act was passed in 1956, most of the government correspondence, letters and orders were being issued only in English, he said and urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to issue necessary instructions in this regard.
The agitationists urged the Tamil Nadu Government to implement the Act in total.
