PM to lay foundation stone for IISCO's modernisation work

Burnpur, Dec 18 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation stone of Rs 9600 crore modernisation programme of IISCO steel plant at its Burnpur complex on December 24.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Das Munshi, Steel Minister Ramvilas Paswan and others, IISCO sources here today said.

About 365 acres of land had been earmarked for the modernisation and expansion of the century-old public sector steel plant.

After the completion of modernisation works, the production of crude steel, huge demand in the country and abroad, will increase to 25 lakh tonne by 2009 from five lakh tonne now.
